Do you ever feel like your hard work goes unnoticed or unappreciated? Do you feel like you don't have much to offer no matter how hard you try? Do you feel burnt out or like you just can't quite juggle it all? Do you feel like you're the only one trying or contributing? I know there are many times that I do.
There have been many different situations lately that have left me discouraged because I feel like in my current circumstances, I don't have much to offer. There have been many different things that have left me feeling like the effort I do have to give goes unnoticed and it sort of leaves me with the "why bother" attitude at times. (Not the best attitude to have, I'll admit that.)
I was talking with a good friend a little while back and she was sharing that she felt burnt out, over worked, taken advantaged of, and sometimes resentful because of her circumstances and what was asked of her at times. It was nice to know that I wasn't the only one feeling that way, but I knew that we both needed to put things into a better perspective in order to find joy in the midst of our frustrations. It wasn't long after that conversation a sermon reminded both of us what the bible says about our efforts.
And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance; for you serve the Lord Christ. (Colossians 3:23-24 NKJV)
Bondservants, be obedient to those who are your masters according to the flesh, with fear and trembling, in sincerity of heart, as to Christ; not with eyeservice, as men-pleasers, but as bondservants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart, with goodwill doing service, as to the Lord, and not to men, knowing that whatever good anyone does, he will receive the same from the Lord, whether he is a slave or free. (Ephesians 6:5-8 NKJV)
When we work (whether in our homes or in job outside of the home), when we serve (whether in ministry or even to our families), when we try, we must remember who we are truly working for, and who we are serving. There may be times when we're giving all we've got and the people around us don't appear to be trying or contributing at all. That can be extremely frustrating and discouraging but when we remember that we are working unto the Lord and not unto man, it helps us keep a servants heart, and a joyful attitude. When we remember that He sees our efforts, He sees what we have to offer, He sees when we're giving it our all, and that He is pleased, it helps us not feel as unappreciated and unnoticed.
When you're giving it your all, and starting to get weary or even resentful, remember whom it is that you serve...
As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.
In His Love,
Rosalynn
